Development

Polish Pavilion in Venice is Poland’s official presence at the Venice Biennale of Art and Architecture, curated by Zachęta National Art Gallery.

The Challenge

Until 2016, each edition of the Biennale was presented through a separate, standalone website. Zachęta needed a single, coherent platform that would serve both as a presentation of current exhibitions and as a long-term archive of past projects. The website had to balance the needs of very different audiences: visitors travelling to Venice who required clear, practical information, and art professionals who wanted in-depth content, access to media materials, and contextual descriptions. At the same time, the tone had to reflect the importance of one of the world’s most significant art events, while remaining modern, transparent, and easy to navigate.

The Approach

We proposed a flexible digital system designed to endure. Our work included the website’s design and development, the creation of a new logo for the Polish Pavilion, and later also the design of print materials. The platform was structured to accommodate successive Biennale editions while maintaining clarity and consistency. Particular attention was given to condensing key exhibition information into a clear and legible format, supported by modern typography and a restrained visual language that allows the content to remain central.

The Result

A long-lasting digital platform that has served the Polish Pavilion continuously since 2016. The website has successfully presented all subsequent exhibitions, supported open competitions for future editions, shared press materials, and brought together successive teams of curators. Its system-based approach has allowed each new curatorial team to work confidently within an established framework, while preserving the distinct character of every exhibition.
